It is a long-standing tradition at Hotel VICTORIA that, shortly before the opening of the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt, our diligent baking helpers gather in the kitchen to create the most delicious Christmas cookies. Beautifully arranged, they are then served to our breakfast guests every morning during Advent. Have you ever had the pleasure of trying them?
Today, we are sharing our VICTORIA cookie recipe with you – easy to recreate at home.
Ingredients
- For the dough:
- 100 g powdered sugar
- 200 g butter
- 300 g flour
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Zest of one organic orange
For the icing:
- Powdered sugar
- Orange juice
- Sprinkles for decoration
Preparation
- It is important that the butter is cold and that the dough does not become too warm while kneading.
- Knead the powdered sugar with the butter, then add the flour, salt, vanilla extract, and the organic orange zest.
- Cover the dough and chill for at least one hour. Knead the dough again briefly, then roll it out on a floured surface (we recommend a silicone mat) to a thickness of about 5 mm.
- Make sure not to use too much flour so the dough doesn’t become crumbly.
- Using our VICTORIA heart-shaped cutter, cut out the cookies one by one.
- Bake the cookies in a preheated oven at 190°C for 8–10 minutes until the edges are lightly browned.
- Carefully remove them from the tray and allow them to cool.
- For the icing, mix powdered sugar with orange juice until it reaches a thick, milky consistency.
- The icing must be stirred until completely smooth.
Serving suggestion
Best enjoyed with a hot cup of mulled wine.
Warm regards and Merry Christmas
